To commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation, a colourful cultural programme was presented by the inmates at District Jail Jammu. Hon’ble Ms Justice Gita Mittal, Chief Justice of J&K High Court was the Chief Guest . The programme was witnessed by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajesh Bindal, Hon’ble MsJustice Sindhu Sharma, DGP Prisons V. K Singh, IPS, Ashok Bhan,Rtd DGP Prisons, Vinod Chaterjee Koul, Principal District& Sessions Judge, Jammu, Sh. Jawad Ahmed, Principal Secretary to Hon’ble Chief Justice, Satish Khandare,IPS, IGP Prisons, Mukesh Singh, IPS , IGP Jammu, Vivek Gupta, DIG JKR, Sushma Chauhan, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr M. S Lone, DIG Prisons, Tejinder Singh, SSP Jammu, Professor SunandaRaina, Principal GMC and a large number of senior members from judiciary,police and civil administration besides jail inmates and staff.
During the program, the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi weredisplayed along with other videos to propagate the message of Mahatma Gandhi.Various cultural items like bhajans, folk songs, dance numbers were presentedby the inmate including female inmates which received thunderous applause fromthe audience.
Superintendent District Jail, Jammu in his welcome addressunderlined various steps being taken in the Prisons for welfare of prisonersand improving prison administration. He highlighted that the Department ismaking efforts towards making jails self-reliant and providing betterfacilities and training opportunities to the inmates.
Hon’ble Ms Justice Gita Mittal in her address appreciatedthe efforts made by jail authorities for the welfare of prisoners. Sheexpressed her happiness on celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in theJail and highlighted the contributions of Gandhiji. She welcomed theintroduction of Prison Inmate Calling System in the Jail and construction ofmodern interview room.
Earlier, the Chief Justice inaugurated the new interviewroom built on modern lines and also the Prison Inmate Calling System. OneUndertrial Prisoner Jatan R/O Malapuram, Kerala made a call to his wifein Kerala during inauguration of the calling system. Modern interview rooms arebeing constructed in all jails of J&K and Prison Inmate Calling System isalso being introduced in the Central Jails Srinagar & Jammu.
